Another month of consultation on 'weights and measures' directive

go back print this page     send page by mail     Comments
On February 27th the consultation period launched by the European Commission on weights and measures for road transport units, closes. The Commission has shown itself ready to revise directive 96/53which in particular sets the maximum length of a tractor-trailer unit at 16.5 metres.
Two years ago, a first door was opened in favour of safety : the
Commission pronounced itself favourable to lengthening vehicles to benefit the safety of weaker road users. Following the publication of the White Paper in 2011, extra length may also help in reducing fuel consumption, either by the creation of aerodynamic cabs or by appendices to the rear of the vehicle.
Citizens (and representatives of the transport sector) can thus express their opinions and suggestions here.
