´Motor Transport´s Haulier of the Year´ prize awarded by the magazine Motor Transport in July 2007
The winner of the Motor Transport Award 2007 simultaneously carried out a successful reconversion and a change of brand. Expect Distribution´s origins lie in the Pennine Parcels company, which had begun its activities in express packages but diversified into the transport of pallets by being one of the founding members of the Palletline package transport network. The abandonment of package transport was reflected by a name change in 2006. Since then the company has enjoyed stable two-figure growth.
The ´no-nonsense´ approach of Robert and Neil Rushworth can be seen on several levels within the company. For example, if the company works with KPI´s (Key Performance Indicators), it only communicates them to those customers who ask for them, based on the principle that the main thing the customers want is for the work to be done on time, not to be burdened with the details. (With the collaboration of Justin Stanton, editor-in-chief of Motor Transport)
Best Practice
Changing a name and visual identity is no trivial matter. The process cost around 250,000 GBP, but the return on investment has been enormous. « We are acquiring important customers who would never have worked with us under our former name », explains Neil Rushworth. Expect Distribution strives to differentiate itself at every level from the average haulier.
