Goodyear has announced that it is to market a new tyre for semi-trailers, the Regional RHT II RFID 435/50R19.5, which stands out because it uses an RFID chip (Radio Frequency Identification Device). This chip contains all the information allied to the tyre and a unique identification code which can be read by a scanner passing close by. This will lead to a real-time time saving in all of the control and management operations for the tyres, particularly via the on-line service FleetOnlineSolutions.
“Before, we had to read each identity code made up of six figures and appearing on the side of the tyre”, explains Bart van Rens, Fleet Control Manager at Ewals and test client  for this new product. “This took time and it was easy to make mistakes. Now, the RFID system is quick and eliminates any possible errors. Everything recorded within the framework of a service is 100%.correct.”
The system can also be used to locate stolen tyres, and will also be able to be used to check tyre temperatures and pressures remotely in the future.
