Great potential for telematics in trailer market
According to a recent survey by Frost & Sullivan, the market for telematics equipment applied to trailers has an enormous potential for growth in Europe. Only 5% of the current 2.3 million units on the road are believed to be equipped with tracking devices or merchandise security systems, but this penetration level is set to climb to 18.2% by 2017, with the trailer fleet rising to 3.1 million units. Amongst principal factors behind this progress, Niranjan Manohar (Senior Research Analyst at Frost & Sullivan) points to the ever more integrated nature of the logistics chain which demands total visibility over the whole of the process, to increased security demands and to the decreasing cost of the hardware.
