ING forecasts a 0.8 % drop in logistics activity in the Netherlands in 2012

In the second edition of its quarterly survey of the transport sector, ING forecasts a slight decrease (-0.8%) in logistics activities in 2012. Road transport (-0.8%) and logistics (-0.5%) are set to do slightly better than maritime transport (-1%) and air transport (-2%), but the most worrying factor is the drop in demand for international transport. ING also fears a decrease in transport prices, within a difficult context where transport companies have been unable to take enough benefit from the better market conditions of 2010 and 2011. The challenges will also be financial in nature, and yield will have to take precedence over volume.
