For some time HGV manufacturers have been concentrating on engines responding to the Euro-6 norm, which comes into force on 31st December 2013. At this time particulate emissions have to be reduced by half and nitrogen oxide emissions by 77%. Volvo is working on a combination of SCR, EGR and particulate filters. The challenge lies in reducing nitrogen oxide emissions without increasing fuel consumption.
