IRU doesn't rule out double-dip recession in transport within the OECD

Basing itself on the evolution of road transport indexes, the IRU believes that a ‘double-dip recession’ is possible in 2012 in the OECDregion, and within the European Union in particular. “In 2011, transport volumes only increased by 1.7% and 1.6% respectively in these two zones”, comments Jens Hügel, head of sustainable development at the IRU. “In 2012, growth is only expected to be 0.9% and 0.8% respectively”. By contrast with certain experts who are forecasting a recovery in the second half of the year, Hügel believes that the indexes will slow down in the third and fourth quarters in particular.
