Mercedes-Benz introduces 'predictive' cruise control
The new Mercedes Actros will be equipped with a new intelligent and ‘predictive’ cruise control, inasmuch as the system takes account of the topography and characteristics of the road ahead to adapt the speed in the most appropriate manner. To do this it uses data from the on-board GPS. The system will in particular help drivers in highly undulating regions and will enable an extra 3% of fuel savings to be made. Called Predictive Powertrain Control, the system acts on the engine, the brakes and the transmission. It therefore represents an extension of the EcoRoll function.
