Portuguese road transport has been growing extremely quickly since 2004. That year, both distances covered (up 26%) and tonne-kilometres(up 4%) took a huge leap forwards. This overall growth continued in 2005 and 2006, but a cleardifference is to be observed between national transport (which is stagnating) and international transport (which is making great progress).
