UIRR disappointed about certain elements of rail policy for Italy

go back print this page     send page by mail     Comments

The UIRR (International Rail-Road Union) is calling on all parties involved to revise a number of decisions taken involving the development of  rail infrastructures in the north of Italy. These investments are designed to strengthen the north-south axis which goes from the Betuwe line in the Netherlands to the north of Italy. Rather than the Chiasso line, which crosses the Milan region, the UIRR would like to see the investments concentrated on the Luino line which bypasses Milan to the west, provides a better solution for heavy goods trains  and concentrates 80% of all non-accompanied traffic at the moment, as it connects to the major combined transport terminals of the region.
